Relay with CT&Shunt

Pulished on Jul. 29, 2021

Relay, as an electrical control device, when the input quantity (excitation quantity) changes to meet the specified requirements, an electrical appliance that causes the controlled quantity to undergo a predetermined step change in the electrical output circuit. The application scenarios are very wide, such as remote control , Telemetry, communication, automatic control, mechatronics, new energy vehicles, smart cities, etc. The biggest application scenario of relays is used in smart meters. In the smart meter, the relay is inseparable from the combination of shunt or transformer. How do they work? Today we will take a closer look.

Shunts and current transformers, as the most common measurement and sampling components, are of great significance in smart meters. The line voltage is sampled, and other modules are read and calculated and fed back to the MCU of the meter, and finally on the LCD unit of the meter. Show the required power value. As the most common switching control element, the relay also plays a very important role in the electric meter. After receiving the switching signal, the MCU acts on the drive chip of the relay to activate the circuit of the control unit, and complete the correction through the positive and negative changes of the pulse, switching of the state of the relay contacts.

In our current home prepaid, postpaid and other smart meters, we can often see the combination of the two. When the current transformer and shunt are sampled, the actual power consumption is obtained after reading and calculation, and the MCU is calculated , Perform intelligent on-off and detection according to the set writing program, so that the pre-payment and post-payment function management can achieve a more efficient effect.

The combination of relays, current transformers and shunts has another function that must be mentioned, that is, their combined use protects the normal system operation of the meter. When the current in the circuit of the meter is about to reach a value that the meter cannot withstand, the current transformer or shunt will detect it and give it to the relay through a series of instructions. At this time, the relay will disconnect the circuit in time, to protect it.

Whether it is a relay, a current transformer, or a shunt, they are the key components of the electric meter, and the spirit of continuous innovation of our IVY is also the "soul" of the electronics industry! We believe that this is a never-ending process. Of course, for more information about relays, transformers, and shunts, you can also find out on our website: www.ivy-metering.com
