The Classification of Relay

Pulished on Jul. 22, 2020

Relay is a kind of electrical control device, which refers to an appliance in an electrical output circuit that causes disconnect or connect, switching on or off when overload happens and meets the specified requirements. In the circuit,it plays many functions, such as an automatic regulation, safety protection, conversion circuit and so on.

How many kinds of relays and what are they?

1、According to the working principle

1) Elctromagnetic relay: an  electrical relay that works by using the suction force generated between the electromagnet core and armature by the current in the input circuit, such as latching relay and power relay.

The Classification of Relay

2)Solid-state relay: A relay whose input and output are isolated when electronic components perform their functions without mechanical moving components.

3)Temperature relay: a relay that operates when the outside temperature reaches a given value.

4) Reed relay: A relay that opens, closes, or switches lines by the reed action which is sealed in the tube and has double functions of electric shock reed and armature magnetic circuit.

5) Time relay: When the input signal is added or removed, the output part should be delayed or limited to the specified time before closing or disconnecting its controlled line relay.

6)High-frequency relay: relay with minimum loss for switching high-frequency and radio-frequency lines.

2. Classification according to the overall dimensions of relays:

1) Micro relay: relay with the longest side size not more than 10mm.

2) sub-miniature mini relay: relay with the longest side size larger than 10mm but not larger than 25mm.

3) Miniature micro relay: relay with the longest side size larger than 25mm but not larger than 50mm.

3, According to the relay load, relay can be divided into:

1) micro-power relay: when the open-circuit voltage of the contact is 28V DC, resistance vale is 0.1A and 0.2A relay.

2) Low power relay: when the open-circuit voltage of the contact is 28V DC, the (resistance) is 0.A and 1A relay.

3) Medium power relay: when the open-circuit voltage of the contact is 28V DC, the relay (resistance) is 2A and 5A.

4) High-power relay: when the open-circuit voltage of the contact is 28V DC, the relay with (resistance) of 10A, 15A, 20A, 25A, 40A…… ...

4,Relay classification:(according to the protection characteristics)

1) Sealed relay

2) Enclosed relay

3) Open relay

Electromagnetic relay and reed relay are the most commonly used relays in electronic manufacturing
