The Trend of Energy Innovation

Innovation in the energy sector has historically been slow, "closed, slow, high threshold" -- the subjective image of the energy sector.

But as technology upgrades and institutional reforms continue to deepen,more and more people are looking for innovation opportunities in the energy sector,looking to break down established boundaries and disrupt energy markets.The evolutionary genes for energy are being stimulated, and a trend towards "cross-border innovation" is on the horizon.

 

With the gradual progress of supply-side reform and energy transformation in the energy sector, innovation has become the only way for the energy industry to seek new growth and breakthroughs, and innovation and entrepreneurship have also become the "next wind outlet" of the energy industry.

 

There are 4 drivers of the global energy transition.The American model is full market competition, entrepreneurship to promote natural gas instead of oil;

The German model is to lead and support the development of new energy through ideas.Japan's model increased the proportion of natural gas in power generation after the Fukushima nuclear accident, while China's energy transformation model will be promoted in multiple ways, and the model of natural gas and nuclear energy should be adopted.

First, the next wave of energy innovation will emphasize smart grid technology, integration of intermittent renewable energy technologies into the grid, adoption of public infrastructure such as connected vehicle infrastructure and ev charging infrastructure.

 

Second, if successful, these emerging technologies will have huge spillovers.

Much of their social value comes from easier access to complementary technologies such as intermittent renewable energy.

For example, advances in energy storage technologies will greatly improve grid management as the share of intermittent renewable energy generation increases.

 

Breakthroughs in energy storage will lead to better batteries, which will also make electric cars more attractive to consumers.

Third, the highly aggressive and innovative nature of smart grid and systems integration technologies suggests that technologies will require more innovation across different businesses and different technology routes.
