Application of DC Meter in Civil DC Power Supply and Distribution System

As we all know, after a hundred years of application, the technology of AC power grid is very mature, and its dominance is difficult to shake in a short period of time. Based on reality and future predictions, the DC power supply and distribution system in civil buildings can only be used as a supplement to the AC power supply and distribution system, and the DC power supply and distribution system is applied in some local systems, local areas, and specific conditions.

One of the reasons that DC power supply and distribution has attracted the attention of the industry again is that the power load is "DC-based", and the power supply and distribution system serves the power load, so it is natural to think of the DC-based system.


Most household appliances and office appliances can be powered by DC

In order to adapt to the current alternating current, household appliances and office appliances have to add circuits such as rectification and filtering to their power supply parts to convert alternating current into direct current, which not only increases costs, but also reduces efficiency. Household appliances and office appliances have a large volume and wide range. After DC power supply is adopted, the potential for energy saving, material saving and investment saving is relatively large.


Most lighting equipment can be powered by DC

Due to the maturity and development of LED technology, the use of DC power supply for lighting has been popularized. No matter what type of LED drive circuit is inseparable from the rectifier and filter circuit. If DC power supply is used, the rectifier filter circuit can be omitted. It can also play the role of energy saving, material saving, investment saving and efficiency improvement.


Motor loads can also be powered by DC

There is no need to say much about the DC motor, and no one doubts the use of DC power supply. The AC motor, due to the frequency conversion technology and inverter technology, can be used in conjunction with the AC motor. We can understand the frequency conversion and inverter as the driver of the AC motor, similar to the driver of the LED lamp. From this point of view, the drive circuit of AC motor, including fixed frequency drive and variable frequency drive, will not affect the DC system to provide power for the AC motor, although there has been a heated discussion on the frequency converter in the industry.


Electric vehicles can be fully charged with DC

The use of DC charging for electric vehicles can solve the problem of slow charging, fast and efficient. At present, the capacity of off-board chargers in my country can reach 480 kW (dual guns), and the capacity of the charging host system can reach 1 080 kW (32 DC charging terminals), and it only takes about 30 minutes to fully charge 80% of the electricity. In Europe, ABB's super fast charging pile has a capacity of 350 kW (single gun), a charging current of up to 500 A, and can travel 200 km in 10 minutes. Tesla in the United States will build 10,000 super charging piles around the world, which will be fully charged to 80% in 30 minutes.


DC power distribution is not for DC and DC, but because of the direct currentization of electricity loads, distributed energy sources such as photovoltaics, and the development of energy storage technologies, which provide application prospects for DC power distribution. As a DC metering device, a DC meter is indispensable. IVY has launched two rail-mounted DC energy meters for this purpose. The brief introduction is as follows.


1. There are 2 types of DC DIN rail instruments: EM613001 & EM613002. It is worth emphasizing that RS485 and NB-IOT communication are optional. The EM613001 is an Rs485 DC energy meter with high precision sampling through a shunt. The EM613002 is a wireless rs485 DIN rail DC meter with NB-IOT communication.

2. EM series DC energy meters are specially designed for the measurement and monitoring of DC systems.

3. The DIN rail type DC energy meter can measure important DC parameters: voltage, current, power and electric energy, etc., and also supports bidirectional measurement. All data in the meter can be accessed via RS485 using Modbus RTU/DTL645.

4. The instrument is powered by DC power supply. The input voltage range is up to 400VDC, and the current input allows flexible use of DC shunts.

5. The multi-tariff version has built-in RTC, which can provide multi-tariff information and monthly records.

6. EM series DC meters are specially designed for DC panels, battery energy storage systems, charging piles, telecom base stations and other scenarios.
